The first fitness games competition 6th Horsepower Challenge n organized by the Amplified Fitness Club, Kohima commenced today at TT Stadium, Kohima under the theme “Are you up for the challenge”.
A total of 23 participants are taking part in the two-day event which is the first ever of its kind in the State.
The competition events are - box jump, bar bell push press, thrusters, pull up, dumb bell snatch (ladder), dead lift, wall ball, over head squat, over head kettlebell swing, jump rope, jump squat, push up (hand release), burpees, jumping jack, front squat, lunges and clean and jerk.
The games competition is made open to all and has no separate competition by differentiating weight categories, just that the participants should be 16 years and above.Ookumen from Flex Appeal Gym, Kohima, emerged as the winner of the ‘Viewers Open Challenge”. He won the title with 64 pull ups in three minutes. The winners of the other competitions will be declared tomorrow, the organizers said.
The total prize money for the two-day event has been fixed at Rs. 80,000. The winner of the competition will fetch a cash award of Rs. 40,000, sponsored by Kemhievonuo Keretsü, while the 1st and 2nd runner-up will win a cash award of Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively, sponsored by Kezhaletuo Kire and Neitho Kuotsu.
The top three winners will also be awarded with trophies and citations, while a gift hamper will also be awarded to the participant on the category – “Spirit of the game”.
The head judge of the fitness competition is Neitho Kuotsu, and will be managed and scored by fitness staff. A medical team has also been arranged for the competition, to keep a watch on the health of the participants.
Proprietor of Amplified Fitness Club, Khrielasakuo Keretsü, said the fitness games competition is being organized with the aim to encourage a sense of health consciousness and physical fitness in the Naga society.
“With this competition, it is our desire to bring about a positive impact on our people and the society to live a healthier life,” he said adding that the target is more on wellness and health.
Stating that fitness is becoming a major concern of the present generation, he expressed his hope that the fitness competition will help overcome health obstacles in the form of obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and various other diseases.
He went on to say that fitness is not merely building the body but to keep oneself fit and healthy.
Earlier, the inaugural function was graced by Deo Nukhu, Parliamentary Secretary for Higher and Technical Education, as the chief guest.
In his address, Nukhu regarded the fitness competition as ‘very essential’ for the present generation, especially for people residing in urban areas.
“People from the urban areas don’t get time for exercise, and therefore, this kind of fitness competition comes as very essential for them,” Nukhu asserted.
“These kinds of exercises not only cater to your physical health, but also help improve your mental well being. Exercises such as this should be regularly practiced by everyone, be it men or women, young or old.
The Parliamentary Secretary proposed for organizing similar competitions even in other districts, as it will help promote the importance of fitness and good health. To this, Nukhu lauded the Amplified Fitness Club for organizing an event such as this, while he also urged everyone to keep themselves fit and healthy.
The programme commenced with invocation pronounced by Mwchang Jamatia, welcome address by Khrielasakuo Keretsü, special number by Colored Keys and oath taking by Kelezhazo Pienyü.
The competition will conclude on October 17 at 2 pm with Mhalezolie Kire, president, Dapfhütsumia Youth Organisation as the guest of honour.
