KIPHIRE — A three-day training on importance of fishery by-products, fish consumption and process of making value added products, organised by the department of Fishery and Aquatic Resources, got underway on Wednesday at District Horticulture Training Hall in Kiphire with the participation of 30 fish farmers.

At the inaugural programme, two guest speakers namely Sentinungba Longchar and Lipichem spoke on how fish pickles could help the local fish industry grow and improve the farmers' incomes. They also promised support from their departments by providing packaging bottles to the farmers.

Nzanthung, district fishery officer, delivered the welcome address, while Esther from NSRLM led the training sessions, which included making pickles, jams and candies.

The goal of the programme was to give fish farmers the knowledge and skills they need to create products that could help them earn more and strengthen the local economy.
