Imphal, Dec. 13 (EMN): A progressive fish farmer from Manipur, Salam Rohendro Singh, has bagged Haricharan Das Best Progressive Fish Farmer Award 2022 in recognition of his significant contribution and commendable achievements in developing fisheries and aquaculture in Manipur during an international conference on ‘Responsible Aquaculture and Sustainable Fisheries Interact (RASHI)’ held in Agartala on Wednesday.
The conference on RASHI was jointly organised by the College of Fisheries, Tripura,College of Fisheries Lembucherra Alumni Association and North East Society for Fisheries and Aquaculture, India.
Rohendro Sin, a progressive fish farmer with an experience of 20 years in fishery from Laphupat Tera Mayai Leikai in Manipur’s Imphal West District, received the award with a cash prize of INR 10,000, a citation and a trophy, Rohendro Singh.
“We should work hard and soul to become a successful fish farmer,” said the 49-year-old farmer, who is now able to market 30 millions of spawn and 42 tonnes of table size fish within the state for the past three years from his farm which has an area of 5 hectares.
He is presently culturing various commercially important and indigenous fish species of Manipur such as Indian Major Carps, Exotic Carps, Osteobrama belangiri, Bangana dero, Lebo gonius and wallago attu (sareng).
Rohendro Singh has also won awards for highest fish production during the annual fish fair cum fish crop competition organised by the State Fishery Department in 2021 and Progressive Farmer Award for the year 2021-22 conferred by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research: Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, Nainital, Uttarakhand in collaboration with Coldwater Fisheries Society of India in July this year.
Manipur Fishery minister Heikham Dingo Singh along with Director (Fishery) Heisnam Balkrishna is presently in Agartala to be a part of the 4-day international conference on RASHI in Tripura.
Dingo Singh along with his Tripura’ counterpart Prem Kumar Reang in presence of MLA (Bamutia) Krishnadhan Das, Vice-Chancellor (Central Agricultural University, Imphal) Dr. Anupam Mishra and Chief Executive (NFDB) Hyderabad Dr. C Suvarna inaugurated a Fish Festival cum showcasing of technology on the sideline of the International conference.
