Dimapur, June 15 (EMN): Advisor for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and Women Resource Development, R Khing on June 15 inaugurated the much needed women resource centre at Thosuzho, Runguzu Nasa under Chozuba sub-division in Phek district.
This is the first women resource centre to be inaugurated out of the six centers which are under construction in Mokokchung, Phek, Wokha, Peren and Zunheboto. The land was donated free of cost by Runguzu Nasa. A press rel ease received here on Friday informed.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Khing said WRD and DUDA are new departments and brainchild of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio during his first stint in 2003 for the uplift of women and those backward people.
The rural areas though have lot of potentials but without opportunities unable to expose their talent, and therefore the centre would help them utilise the potential towards enhancing their livelihood and economic conditions, he said.
The department focuses on development of resources for women through skill development and entrepreneurship, he said while appealing the rural people to avail the facilities.
Stating that in olden days women were mostly confined to household chores, he said women should come forward to undergo training in different courses and improve their household income.
He expressed hope that the centre would be a centre of excellence which will ultimately result in furthering the concept of “Made in Nagaland”.
Khingalso challenged the womenfolk and administrators of the centre to be an example for the rest of the state so that other ‘sister departments’ would willfully come forward to extend support.
Earlier, the advisor also unveiled the plaque of the centre.
Delivering the keynote address, Director Women Resource Development R Khrienuo Tachü said that the objective of the department since its inception has been towards empowerment of Naga women with all round skill development. In this, she expressed the hope that opening of the centre would help enhance the skill of rural women towards improving their livelihood and enhance their economy.
Expressing that there are lots of school and college dropouts, she said that the centre has been opened so to provide skill development training to them.
She asserted to extend all possible support towards providing different trainings on weaving, tailoring, toy making, food processing etc. She also said that the department would also find market for the completed products in such centres.
Presenting the the technical report, SDO PWD (H) Kohima Division-II, Teisovilie said construction started in 2012 and completed at a cost of INR 3 crore.
Short speeches were also delivered by Runguzu Nasa Village Council Chairman Vekhwünü, Contractor Thepupi Kapu and former candidate of the constituency, Kudecho Khamo.
