Imphal, Sep. 22 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh made a clarion call for all communities for peaceful co-existence, cooperation and unity and said Manipur’s beauty is in our diversity.
Biren Singh was addressing the 1st death anniversary of (L) Athuan Abonmai, former president of Zeliangrong Baudi, an apex body of Zeliangrong community at Tarung Village in the outskirts of Imphal on Thursday.
Athuan Abonmai was killed after being abducted from the Tamenglong district headquarters in September last year.
Condemning the incident, Biren Singh expressed his firm belief and assured that justice will be delivered in Abonmai’s case and added that the case is under investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Towards the construction of a memorial park in Abonmai’s name, Singh said that the government will do the needful though it might take time.
Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, “This is not the time for war,” and further called upon everyone to shun violence while citing that violence has never brought development in the society.
The Hill Areas Committee Chairman Dinganglung Gangmei said that taking the path of violence and hate because of differences in views or opinions will not bring progress to the society and nation.
In a matured democracy like India, where the concept of unity in diversity exists, there is no place for politics of hate and violence, he said. He further sought cooperation and support of the people while expressing, ‘let us co-exist with communal harmony without disturbing the identity of other communities’.
