Dimapur, Dec. 22 (EMN): Mokokchung town’s first Christmas Night Carnival started with a bang on December 20 with a huge crowd of citizens gathering for music and novelty to usher in the festivities of the season.
Amid the winter chill and thick mist covering the entire town, the young and the old came out from their homes to enjoy the nightlife: food stalls, fortune games and music, which were some of the major attractions at the carnival.
According to organizers, the night carnival provides a golden opportunity for local entrepreneurs and educated unemployed youths to showcase their work besides the avenue to sell their products.
Mokokchung’s first Christmas Night Carnival was inaugurated by N Bendang Jamir, the president of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party of Mokokchung region. A prayer dedicating the event was pronounced by Rev Ponen Longchar, pastor of the Mokokchung Town Baptist Arogo. A short speech was delivered by Abhiav Shivam, Mokokchung’s civil subdivision officer.
Earlier, a brass band of the 2nd NAP battalion performed for the crowd with popular Christmas tunes.
The year’s carnival is organised by the Adventure and Moto Sports Association and the Mokokchung District Musician’s Association, under the aegis of the Mokokchung Municipal Council. The carnival is also being organised with support from the All Ward Union of Mokokchung and the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
