DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 20
“The State government is putting a lot of effort to develop sports, but it is sad to note that we cannot produce noteworthy sportspersons on a regular basis, in the numerous highly attractive sporting events in the country and I feel that one reason for our failure to identify truly talented players is the absence of ranking”, stated Khriehu Leizietsu, Parliamentary Secretary, Youth Resources and Sports, Music Task Force and State Lotteries.
He said this today while addressing the inaugural program of Nagaland Badminton Ranking Tournament, 2015, as a chief guest at Indoor Stadium, Nagarjan. The tournament is being organized by Elite Badminton Club in collaboration with Dimapur District Badminton Association.
Appreciating the ranking tournament introduced by Nagaland Badminton Association as one big step to put things in place, Leizietsu said all the associations of other sport disciplines also must introduce their own system of ranking or professional formats so as to regulate their respective sports in a fair manner and identify the best players who can bring laurels to the State.
“I am sure this concept will help raise the level of the game which will hopefully produce some outstanding players in the days to come”, he said adding, if ranking system goes one Nagaland can regulate games and sports in a professional way and also have the scope to attract corporate houses for sponsorship for sportspersons from the State to take part in national and international events.
While delivering welcome address President, NBA said, the idea of ranking tournament is to get the best players so that they can be sent to various academies in India. He further suggested that badminton be included under the Department of Youth Resources and Sports and for coaches from national level to train the upcoming players. He also expressed dismay that there is no standard stadium where the State can host national level event.
It may be mentioned that Nagaland Badminton Ranking Tournament is organizing a two-day tournament to promote badminton games. Altogether 175 teams from various districts are participating in the tournament. The inaugural programme was chaired by Er. Namhue Khate while invocation was delivered by Charlie Chophy, Asso Pastor, CVBC.
