First 3x3 basketball tournament kicks off in Kohima

Kohima hosts first 3x3 Basketball Tournament with 32 teams from Nagaland and Assam; concludes June 28 with awards.

KOHIMA — The first-ever 3x3 basketball tournament organised by Team Heist got underway on Friday at the D Khel Ground, Kohima Village, drawing participation from 32 teams, including players from Nagaland and Assam.


The tournament features 21 teams in the U-19 boys’ category and 11 teams in the Open category, and will conclude on June 28.

Winners in each category will receive a cash prize of INR 15,000 and a trophy, while the runners-up will receive INR 10,000 and a trophy. The Most Valuable Player (MVP) will be awarded INR 3,000.

Gracing the inaugural ceremony, Pele Khezhie—President of the Northeast Taekwondo Union and Nagaland Taekwondo Association, and Chairman of the Dapfütsumia Council—encouraged the young athletes to nurture their sporting potential with discipline and dedication.

During the programme, Khezhie announced that the Nagaland Taekwondo Association will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Korea on July 10 to facilitate Taekwondo training for young athletes from Nagaland.
