DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 26
In the aftermath of major fire in Dimapur, noisy children were seen frolicking around and some search through the charred rubbles of the burnt homes while affected families continue to languish in the makeshift camps arranged by various NGOs of Dimapur.
Dr. KK Angami Colony, SP Colony and K.Kire Colony all under Kuda Village ‘C’ Khel (Nagarjan) were ravaged by devastating fire that broke out on Sunday rendering around 500 families homeless.
Nobody knows exactly how the fire started and no one is concerned to find the cause of the fire while affected families are still in a state of shock and distress.
The affected area is inhabited by working middle class families and is a peaceful environment, said chairman of Kuda Village ‘C’ Khel Neikepelie Yhoshu.
The incident has rendered many families homeless which will take time to restore and provide them with the shelter they once enjoyed.
Though the affected residents have not received any assurance of help from the State government, 25 Dimapur based NGOs and few individuals have come forward and provided cash and kind.
Properties worth approximately around some crores were lost in the massive fire, according to Red Cross Society Dimapur Honorary Secretary K.K.Paul.
Though there was no report of theft, affected victims while talking to Eastern Mirror said that goods were stolen during the panicked rush by thieves who took advantage of the situation.
Victims are still in need of tarpaulin tents for their shelters even though philanthropists are doing their best with available resources.
