DIMAPUR — A major fire broke out on Friday morning at Kevijau Colony, Lane 14, in Dimapur, reducing four bamboo houses to ashes and rendering as many families homeless. Property worth several lakhs was reportedly destroyed in the incident.
According to Fire and Emergency Services officials, the blaze started around 9.20 am, with the department receiving a distress call at 9.30 am.
Four fire tenders—two each from the central and west fire stations—were pressed into service.
The officials informed that the narrow approach road initially hampered the movement of fire engines, highlighting the urgent need for wider roads in the colony to ensure timely emergency response.
The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes, preventing it from spreading to nearby houses, it was informed.
While most belongings and valuables of the affected families were destroyed, no casualties or injuries were reported. The exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
