Mokokchung, Jan. 21 (EMN): A major fire broke out at Alongmen ward in Mokokchung town on Monday evening, burning about nine shops.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started at around 6:30 pm, and burned down a section of the shops in its path. Two fire engines from the Mokokchung station were pressed into service and managed to contain the raging fire before it could spread to nearby shops.
Fire department official said seven pork stalls, a general shop and a dry fish stall were completely burned.
Fire personnel informed that property worth around seven lakh was being estimated to have been lost in the fire. The personnel managed to salvage some items including two LPG cylinders. The cause of the fire was not ascertained till the filing of this report. It is said that the section of shops belongs to one Limawati Kichu of Mokokchung village.
