KOHIMA — In an unfortunate turn of events, a major fire broke out at Kitsubozou colony near Chakhesang Baptist Church in Kohima, causing significant damage to several buildings and vehicles.
Officer in-charge of South Fire Station Kohima, Sedevizo Hibo, told Eastern Mirror that 14 households were affected and left homeless while shops and vehicles were also razed down.
The fire, which occurred between 11:30 am to 12 noon, was reportedly caused by Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) leakage and spread rapidly as the cylinders exploded.
While there were no human casualties, a dog was charred to death while four vehicles were fully burnt and two other vehicles were partially burnt.
Meanwhile, further investigations are still on and the total assessment of damage to property could not be ascertained as investigations will take a few more days, the official said.
It was informed that seven fire tenders-- four from south fire station and three from north fire station-- were pressed into action, and at least 14 trips of water were required to douse the fire.
Besides personnel from the fire and emergency services, the State Disaster Response Force and Assam Rifles were also involved in bringing the fire under control.
Fire tenders from Chiephobozou fire station were also called in for reinforcement but were sent back en route to Kohima as the fire was brought under control.
