DIMAPUR — Around 100 families were affected after a major fire broke out at Kuda-B Khel, Lane 10 (D), in Dimapur on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire was reported around 2 pm in an area largely inhabited by daily wage earners and auto-rickshaw drivers. The Central Fire Station, Dimapur, received the distress call at around 2.20 pm.
Several bamboo-structure houses were completely gutted in the fire. No casualties had been reported till the filing of this report.
Fire personnel said the exact number of houses affected could not be immediately ascertained, but around 100 families were believed to have been affected.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. A short circuit was suspected, as electrical faults are among the common causes of fire incidents in Dimapur.
Most of the occupants were reportedly away from their homes when the fire broke out.
Seven fire tenders—six from Central Fire Station and one from West Dimapur Fire Station—were deployed to contain the blaze. Firefighters took around one-and-a-half hours to douse the flames.
Fire personnel said they did not face traffic congestion in the main town area but encountered an obstruction near Dhansiri Bridge, close to the power station.
Vehicles had reportedly been parked along the road by people who had gathered to watch the fire, blocking the fire tenders’ access and delaying their entry into the lane.
