DIMAPUR, APRIL 14
Emergency personnel of the Dimapur Fire division on Thursday flagged-off their Fire Prevention Week campaign by distributing pamphlets to citizens and motorists in urban Dimapur proper, on fire safety and fire prevention.
The exercise began at the City Tower junction with two fire engines. Emergency personnel distributed pamphlets and listings on ‘survival guide in case of fire’, ‘fire precaution in industries’, ‘Do’s and Don’ts and various other Information-Educative-Communication materials.
Besides, two fire engines stopped at five junctions in the town and, with a bullhorn in town, spelled out preventive measures to citizens.
The theme for the year’s fire safety week is ‘Prevent Fire incident- Promote nation development’.
The Fire division of Dimapur district has over the years engaged in educating the public about disaster management and response. Community campaigns and mock drills in schools, colleges and other public institutes have been carried out by the division.
For the year, the division has fought 18 fire calls with the latest at Nepali Basti on Thursday. The fire at Nepali Basti occurred around 6:17 am. Properties worth 1.65 lakh were reportedly destroyed.
The officer in-charge of the division, Meren Jamir, said that the cause of the fire was ‘short circuit.’
The officer spoke his concerns about ignoring safety measures. Jamir requested the communities of Dimapur not to make overhead rod rigs. Fire engines, generally large vehicles, struggle to enter localities because of overhead rigs in times of emergency, he said.
The division covered City Tower, Notun Basti, the DC Court junction, the PWD junction, MP Road and finally concluded the day’s events at the Supermarket.
