DIMAPUR Three adjoining shops, including paint and electrical shops, were destroyed in a fire suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit at KR Complex, Dhobinala, Dimapur, on Sunday evening.
According to personnel from the West Fire Station, the fire was reported at around 4:30 pm, following which two fire tenders from the West Fire Station and four from the Central Fire Station were dispatched to the site.
Personnel from the West Fire Station reached the spot within 10 minutes. However, they said traffic congestion near the location hampered their movement despite it being a Sunday.
Firefighters took around an hour to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to adjoining shops.
A firefighter said one of the affected establishments was a paint shop, which made firefighting more challenging. The blaze was brought under control after the team used mechanical foam to douse the fire.
The extent of the property damage is yet to be ascertained. No casualties were reported.
