KOHIMA — A fire broke out at Nagaland House on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road in New Delhi on Monday morning, but was contained without any casualties or injuries, according to Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chairman of Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Abu Metha.
Providing an update through a post on X, Metha said the fire originated in Room No. 2 of the building and was most likely caused by an electrical short circuit in an air-conditioning unit.
He stated that staff members at Nagaland House responded immediately and used fire extinguishers available within the premises, neighbouring apartments and the office to prevent the blaze from spreading.

According to Metha, as the fire intensified and became difficult to access from the front of the building, responders climbed onto the roof and directed extinguishers through rear windows until personnel from the Delhi Fire Service arrived.
The Delhi Fire Service subsequently brought the situation fully under control.
"The alert staff of the House reacted immediately and courageously fought the spread of the fire using fire extinguishers available within the premises, neighbouring apartments and the office," Metha stated.
State government authorities and senior officials are currently assessing the extent of the damage as well as the structural condition of the building.
Metha informed that the emergency response and post-disaster management efforts were led by Joint Resident Commissioner Sharon Longchari.

He further stated that Nagaland House, inaugurated in 1973 by former Chief Minister Hokeshe Sema, has served as a government guest house and a key facility for Nagas visiting the national capital for more than five decades.
Located on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road in the heart of New Delhi, the building has hosted state leaders, students, patients, families and visitors from Nagaland over the years and has also served as a venue for official meetings, church services, student activities and community events.
Metha said the state government had already initiated plans to replace the ageing structure with a modern facility and added that the incident could accelerate the redevelopment process.
He also revealed that he was staying in an adjacent room at the time of the incident and was among the last occupants to evacuate the building.
Despite the damage caused by the fire, Metha expressed gratitude that the blaze was brought under control quickly and that no lives were lost or injuries sustained.
