DIMAPUR — The Department of Fire and Emergency Services conducted a mock drill at Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, on Wednesday.
According to an update, the programme began with a theory session in the college auditorium, led by Keleseho Stephen Tsukru, OC Fire Station, Mokokchung, along with his team.
The resource person highlighted the importance of preparedness, knowledge upgradation, and life skills required to act promptly during fire outbreaks or other disasters. A slide presentation was shown, which helped the students understand various aspects of fire safety.

During the session, participants were introduced to the fire triangle (the three essential components of fire) and the classification of fires. The officer also explained the appropriate extinguishers for different types of fire, noting that CO₂ and DCP extinguishers can be used in almost all situations.
It was also mentioned that Mokokchung ranks among the top four districts in Nagaland for fire incidents, stressing the need for awareness and preparedness.
After the theory session, a practical demonstration was conducted outside the auditorium. The trainers demonstrated how to safely turn off gas cylinders, extinguish flames using different methods such as with bare fingers, a bucket, and a blanket, and operate the different types of fire extinguishers correctly.
Students were also given the opportunity to observe and practise these techniques under the guidance of the instructors.
