Dimapur, April 6 (EMN): Nagaland State Social Welfare Board (NSSWB), NMDFC, SRCW and PSK supported under FIF, NABARD, organised one-day financial literacy camp was conducted at Jakhama and Viswema village on March 28.
During the programme, Kennei Angu, Agriculture Officer, Vijaya Bank, Kohima spoke on the importance of banking. She gave a brief introduction about opening of an account and its benefits. She also encouraged the participants to have an active account in order to avail various schemes and bank loans. She further pointed out how general public is suffering by availing loans from individuals or societies with a high rate of interest, whereas the same can be availed from bank at a lower rate.Angela Kemp, Bussiness correspondent, Vijaya Bank, Kohima shared on roles and responsibilities of a business correspondent, where she highlighted how the villagers can take advantages of the BC’s and can utilise it. She also shared how problems of villagers and urban people can be eased with the introduction of BC’s.
Asalie Alex Kruse, Project Manager, NSSWB, spoke on the significance of digital payments. He emphasised on the concept of having a cashless transaction, which is more convenient and more reliable. He sensitised the participants how the world and technology has been changing and how they are affecting our daily lives and added that with the introduction of digital payment, there will be more transparency in transaction. He also shared on micro finance and various schemes
Further, Alex introduced the Joint Liability Group (JLG) which is an initiative of NABARD, focused mainly to provide financial assistance to the farmers through Banks.
