25 bands, including five local, one international and 19 national, including seven from the North East region, would be participating in this year’s edition of the Hornbill International Rock contest scheduled to be stage during the first-week of December.
The final list for the selected bands to compete at this year’s Hornbill International Rock Contest (HIRC) 2015 was announced on Saturday, October 31.
Altogether, 25 bands, including five local bands, one international band and 19 national bands (seven from North East region), would be participating in this year’s edition scheduled in the first-week of December.
The five local bands were selected during the State live audition held on October 17, while three national bands - Grey Shack (Bangalore), October (New Delhi) and Daira (Mumbai) were selected after they emerged as winners of the ‘Hornbill on Tour’ contest. The rest of the bands were selected under the criteria set for national and international bands.
Close to 100 bands were auditioned for this year’s edition, however, only 25 bands have made the cut for the final list. This was informed by Khriesazo Liezietsu, Artiste Representative of HIRC 2015.
The Hornbill International Music Festival is scheduled to commence on December 2 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Hockey Ground, Kohima.
On December 2 evening, music lovers will get to witness the performance of the official tribute band of ABBA - Arrival from Sweden, followed by the HIRC 2015 contest from December 3 to 6, with the grand finale scheduled on December 6.
The Hornbill music fest 2015 will conclude on December 7 with famed German metal band Helloween taking the stage.
Arrival from Sweden are one of the world’s most popular and bestselling ABBA show bands, while Helloween are one of Germany’s most respected metal exports, and considered as one of the most influential metal bands in the world.
The Hornbill International Rock Contest is a part of the Hornbill International Music Festival, being organized by the Music Task Force (MTF), Government of Nagaland, in association with Pepsi MTV Indies and Northeast Today. The event will be managed by Sky Entertainment and Nagaland Outdoors’ Club (NOC).
The selected bands have been asked to report on December 2 evening at the venue.
The winner of this year’s edition will win a cash award of Rs. 10 lakh, while the 1st runners-up and 2nd runners-up will also fetch prize money of Rs. 5 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh respectively.
Attractive prizes (not cash) have also been set aside for winners of individual categories - Best vocalist, Best guitarist, Best keyboardist, Best drummer and Best bassist.
