DIMAPUR — A
10-member team from Nagaland, nominated by the Department of Information and
Public Relations, attended the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI)
at Panaji in Goa from Nov. 20 to the 28th.
According to a DIPR report, the filmmakers are Vileno Tase,
Athe Rhi, Nungshitemjen Jamir, Vikepe Yhokha, Lonehol Kin, Ravinder Chetri, I
Baso Chang, Arienba Jamir, Jepito H Zhimomi and Tiakumzuk Pongener.
A special session with the Secretary of Ministry of
Information and Broadcasting, Sanjay Jaju was held on Nov. 23 at Kala Academy,
Panjim, where a total of 274 student delegates and young filmmakers attended.
Broadly briefing on the festival theme ‘Creative minds of
tomorrow,’ Jaju talked about the potentials of young filmmakers and said that
“while we learn from the legacy of the past, we should also pass on the lessons
to the young minds.”
He encouraged the delegate students to sharpen their skills
and craft and aim to showcase their work in a bigger platform.
The secretary also highlighted about the importance of
reaching out to the unreached and lauded about the ministry’s propositions to
focus in the Northeast in the coming years.
The musical documentary ‘Headhunting to Beatboxing,’ which
explores the sonic heritage and cultural traditions of Nagaland was one of the
films featured at the IFFI 2024 Gala Premieres on Nov. 27. The documentary is
directed by Rohit Gupta and produced by AR Rahman.
IFFI is the only film festival in South Asia that is
accredited by
of the 44th international festivals in the Competitive Feature Films Category.
Since its inception in 1952, IFFI has been curating
spectacular films from all over the world. Its goal is to provide a single
platform for ambitious filmmakers, cineastes, and industry professionals to
have access to excellent cinema from across the world.
Since 2004, IFFI has moved to its permanent venue in Goa,
where it is jointly organised every year by the National Film Development
Corporation (NFDC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of
India and Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), Government of Goa. The theme for
this year’s edition is ‘Young filmmakers – the future is now.’
