Kohima, Dec. 1 (EMN): To keep the festive bells ringing during the Hornbill Festival, an extension of the event by the name ‘Traditional Evening Park’ of the Kigwema Youth Organisation (KYO) was inaugurated on Sat. Dec. 1 in collaboration with the Tourism department. The ‘park’ is at the Kigwema football ground, in Kigwema village in Kohima district. It was inaugurated by the advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, Zale Neikha.
The president of the KYO, Vibelie Sale told this reporter that there were 41 stalls at the ‘park.’ He said that the event was being managed only by the villagers there, and without any funds from the state government.
All the stalls are built from straws and bamboos, and each of the stalls sells a variety of local delicacies and beverages; indigenous apparels, souvenirs, and handcrafts; flowers; fruit juice; organic fruits, vegetables, and pulses; and many more. The park also hosts a ‘Naga traditional lifestyle’ museum where one can find a number of ancient Naga apparel styles.
A bonfire was lit in the middle of the field during the event, which was followed by a session of musical entertainment. After the inauguration, Neikha inspected the stalls.
Entry and reception to the park is free. Taxi services are also available from the venue. The event will continue till Dec. 10 from 4 pm to 8 pm.
