DIMAPUR — As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance emergency preparedness and response capabilities, the personnel from Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) carried out an extensive table top exercise and mock drill at Putuonuo Hospital in Kohima on Thursday.
The purpose of the mock drill was to assess and improve the hospital's emergency response plan, evaluate the effectiveness of evacuation procedures and test the coordination between hospital staff and emergency services.
The drill simulated a significant fire emergency within the hospital, featuring a staged fire on the third floor necessitating the evacuation of patients, staff and visitors, an update from the hospital stated.
During the drill, the firefighters demonstrated their expertise in fire suppression, search and rescue operations as well as emergency medical services. The team also tested the hospital's fire alarms, sprinkler systems and emergency communication protocols.
The Fire Prevention and Audit Officer, Kenneth Khing, has commended Putuonuo Hospital for being the first hospital in the state to conduct such a drill according to their standard of procedure and for having all the necessary fire equipment on-site.
