Naga Youth Movement replaces Fed-Up Nagas, urging immediate implementation of Framework Agreement and Agreed Position within three months

DIMAPUR — The Naga Youth Movement, formerly known as Fed-Up Nagas, on Thursday announced its new name, saying the change reflects a more inclusive and constructive approach while retaining its core demand for the implementation of the 2015 Framework Agreement and the 2017 Agreed Position.
Addressing a press conference in Dimapur, the movement clarified that its goals and resolve remain unchanged and maintained that no individual or organisation had pressured it to change its name.
"While Fed-Up Nagas reflected our initial frustration, we are now shifting to Naga Youth Movement to embrace peace, unity and maturity. After prayer and deliberation, we chose a more inclusive path that promotes shalom and a constructive solution rather than aggression," the group said.
The movement urged the government of India (GoI) to immediately implement the Framework Agreement of 2015 and the Agreed Position of 2017 to achieve a decisive political settlement reflecting the aspirations of the Naga people.
It also called on the GoI to convene Naga negotiators and stakeholders for round-table talks at the earliest and finalise a comprehensive and binding agreement based on the two accords signed in good faith. "These are settled commitments, not points for renewed negotiation. A solution was promised. It must now be delivered without further prevarication," it said.
The group informed that it had submitted a memorandum to the prime minister through the governor on July 8. Copies of the memorandum were also submitted to the Union home minister, the chief minister's office, civil society organisations and all relevant political signatories.
In the memorandum, the movement stated that further delay, deflection or postponement by the Centre was unacceptable.
It outlined three key demands: immediate implementation of the 2015 Framework Agreement and the 2017 Agreed Position, which it described as "settled commitments"; implementation of the political solution within three months from July 8, 2026; and an official clarification from the GoI on its position regarding the two agreements, including disclosure of the specific roadblocks delaying their implementation.
Warning that continued inaction would deepen public disillusionment, the movement said that failure to respond constructively could compel Naga youth to resort to civil disobedience and non-cooperation to safeguard their identity and rights.
The group also addressed questions over the delay in submitting the memorandum, stating that it encountered "unexpected delays and logistical obstacles" following its June 27 public rally. "We were stopped at certain points and faced opposition both before and after the rally. Despite these obstacles, our resolve remained firm," it said.
The group further claimed that those opposing the Naga Youth Movement were, in effect, opposing the Framework Agreement of 2015 and the Agreed Position of 2017. It stressed that it was not seeking a new agreement or raising fresh demands but only calling for the implementation of commitments already made.
"Others who do not know the history are making noise. Without knowing history, please do not speak like this. Those who are opposing this movement must know that they are actually opposing the two agreements," it said.
The movement also warned that it would initiate legal action, including defamation proceedings, against any individual, association or organisation that it alleged makes false accusations against it.
