Blue Wings, in association with Manipur Creations, is organising a fashion show to promote industrial growth in Manipur by showcasing Manipur Handloom and Weavers products. Interestingly, the main sponsor Manipur Creations is an apparel company, which has its manufacturing unit based at Chennai, and is being run by a young Manipuri entrepreneur.The event is scheduled on Many 24 and will be held at the Classic Grande Hotel, Imphal.A press meet was held in this regard at Manipur Press Club today. Managing Director of Blue Wings, Kh Nishikanta said that the handloom industry has been playing a vital role in the economy of Manipur, and is the second largest industry in the state as almost all women are artisans. Plus, the traditional skill of handloom weaving is also a status symbol for the womenfolk and occupies an indispensable aspect of the socio economic life.
Nishikanta further announced that professional international models from Europe, Russia, USA along with top models of North East India will be walking the ramp showcasing the state’s traditional attires and designer wear from Manipur.
Aptly-titled ‘Eeyong gi Tantha’ (Rythm of Looms), the show has an underlying concept to promote and restore handloom and heirloom products which have a story to tell on its own and has been passed to the people by our forefathers. Nishikanta said that the event will also try to bring all the indigenous tribes under one umbrella of fashion with an idea of making a bond of love and peace and harmony.
Creator of Manipur Creations, Vasunraz Koijam and his wife Shantibala Koijam, were also present in the press meet. Shantiba, introducing their company to the media persons, said that their brand was set up to promote Manipur to the outside world, and to have our own hosiery garments manufacturer as the North East region does not have such a manufacturer of its own so far. Hoping to bring a wave of industrialisation to the state, the brand is planning to set up a garment factory unit in the state in the near future at Phumlou Siphai, Imphal West and is also planning to open its showroom at Imphal West, Thoubal and Imphal East subsequently. Being a Manipuri, the couple tried hard to set up the brand without much attention to business motives, and more than 1000 of Manipuri youths will be employed when a factory unit is brought to the state.
It may be mentioned that Manipur Creations has recently took part in CII Global Exhibition on Service at Pragati Maida, New Delhi representing MSME of Manipur government, where the response was overwhelming.
Shantibala also said that their company has decided to associate with Blue Wings in this fashion show as the underlying concept of organising such an event suited the objective of Manipur Creations.
Manipur Creations and Blue Wings also appealed all the people of Manipur to work hard and hand in hand for the new revolution of industries in Manipur and render service to the public from the grass root level.
