Dimapur, July 13 (EMN): With the rest of the states in the country, Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (SRLM) has organised a 'Direct Samvad (dialogue)'- live webcasting interaction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with members of self-help groups (SHGs) under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (Day-NRLM), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalaya Yojana (DDU-GKY) and Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs).
Day-NRLM has emerged as the largest institutional platform for women’s empowerment towards poverty alleviation in the country. With DDU-GKY, RSETI and SVEP as sub-schemes of DAY-NRLM that focuses on supporting rural youth in accessing wage-employment and self-employment respectively, state NSRLM programme manager, Imonenla Imkong Phom, stated in a press release.
He added that it sought to mobilise all rural households into SHGs, build their skills and enable access to formal sources of finance, entitlements and services from both public and private sectors.
In Nagaland, Day-NRLM is being implemented in 43 blocks under nine districts. As of June 2018, more than 40,000 women have been mobilised into 4409 SHGs, which has federated into 211 village organisations and 12 cluster level federations and an amount of INR 305 lakhs accessed as bank credit. Also, 1200 rural enterprises and 1733 rural youths are supported under SVEP and RSETI respectively.
It added that more than 700 community members in Nagaland have been trained and are engaged to provide support to community institutions in a variety of themes such as training and capacity building, book-keeping, livelihoods, financial services and FNHW/Gender.
Over 30,000 members of SHGs under 29 intensive blocks from nine districts have witnessed the dialogue telecasted live by Doordashan and webcasted by National Informatics Centre (NIC).
SHGs have interacted on anti-alcohol movement; maize value chain and marketing; brick-making unit; business correspondent Sakhi and tamarind value chain and marketing; and manufacturing and marketing of sanitary napkins.
