Dimapur, Feb. 24 (EMN): With the objective to acquaint farmers on latest technologies to enhance productivity and enlightened them about various flagship schemes, a two-day kisan mela was organised at Krishi Vigyan Kendra premises, Tuensang, on February 19 and 20.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Vinoka Y Kiba, deputy project director, ATMA Tuensang, and graced by the deputy commissioner and chairman of governing board, ATMA Tuensang, L Jamithung. The keynote address was delivered by Lily Tep, DSCO and project director, ATMA Tuensang.
Highlights of the inaugural programme included introduction of flagship schemes under agri and allied departments namely agriculture, horticulture, soil and water conservation, land resources, fisheries and aquatic resource, sericulture, veterinary and animal husbandry, Nagaland state cooperative bank and KVK Tuensang.
The vote of thanks was pronounced by Dr. Keviletsu Khate, senior scientist and head of KVK, Tuensang.
Farmer-scientist interaction with subject experts was also part of the first day programme. The farmers made queries on various agri and allied topics. The interaction was successful as the farmers have cleared their doubts.
The second day programme covered live demonstration on nursery raising of coffee, vermicomposting, mushroom cultivation, pruning of kiwi plants, soil conservation techniques and preparation of ginger candy followed by field visits.
The agri and allied departments of Tuensang have set up exhibit stalls for the knowledge of the farmers by displaying various departmental improved farming tools and implements, improved seeds, bio-agents, pump sets etc. Farmers were also distributed vegetable seeds, mushroom spawn, de-worming medicines and vitamins and mineral supplementation for animals.
The programme was sponsored by ATMA and organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tuensang. Altogether 48 officials from agri and allied departments and 72 farmers from Kuthur, Chingmilen, Chendang, Chingmei, Ngangpong and Tuensang village participated at the kisan mela.
