Dimapur, June 8, (EMN): As a part of the Tribal Sub Plan of the School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD), Nagaland University, Medziphema, a day training programme on kharif onion production technology was conducted on June 8.
The training programme was held with an aim to create awareness on the importance and scope of onion cultivation in the region and to encourage farmers to cultivate the crop. An update received from the institute on Sunday informed.
Senior scientist of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Dr. Shailendra S Gadge spoke about kharif onion production technology while Scientist Dr. Waluniba presented on kharif onion protection technology.
The pro-vice chancellor of the SASRD, Prof. T Lanusosang, who was the resource person for the inaugural function, spoke on the importance and prospects of onion cultivation in Nagaland.
The institution has informed that various activities will be carried out for the benefit of the tribal people for the promotion of this economically viable crop.
The programme was sanctioned by the ICAR-Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research, Rajgurunagar, Pune under the sate Maharashtra to popularise onion cultivation among tribal farmers of Nagaland. About 60 farmers from different villages participated in the programme.
