Dimapur, May 15 (EMN): With the objective to equip village functionaries particularly the Agriculture Technology Management Agency (Atma) with technical knowledge about fish farming, State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (Sameti) has organised a two-day training programme on “Fish farming, design, construction & maintenance of farm pond for fishery” on May 8 and 9.
The training was aimed at equipping the trainees with technical knowledge about fish farming to be emulated at the district level, a press release issued by Sameti director stated.
Resource persons of the training programme were Shamyung O Ongh, fishery inspector of FFDA, Dimapur; and Adizenuo Dolie, assistant fishery inspector of fishery biologist, Dimapur. The training course included lectures on pond management, design and construction of fish pond, fish culture and seed production in fresh water.
A field trip to fish farm under FFDA, Dimapur, was undertaken, where the participants visited the hatchery unit and the fish farm. A demonstration on pond management, feed mixture, liming of pond, feeding habits, mode of feeding and PH testing was conducted by the staff of the department.
The director of Sameti Dr. I Amenla, in her valedictory address, stated that fish farming has become a boon for the health conscious community because of its nutritional values. She opined that there is an urgent need to minimise the gap in the production and import of fish in Nagaland. She also encouraged the trainees to take up the task of meeting the requisite demand and supply in the state by educating the fish farmers through sound technology transfer.
She further stated that the youth, entrepreneurs, and farmers should invest in fish farming as it was not only lucrative but would contribute in meeting the state’s demand and supply.
Certificates were given to the participants.
