Dimapur, May 7 (EMN): In what may be termed as first of its kind in the State, Chetheba unit of Phek Farmers’ Union (PFU) conducted an awareness campaign on departmental activities on May 6 at Chetheba town hall, Phek.
The main resource person Senti Longchar (DK), representing Horticulture Department, spoke on the various procedures to be followed in availing horticulture schemes. Highlighting on the importance of National E-Governance Plan in Agriculture (NeGPA), he encouraged the farmers to come forward for online application.
He also clarified to the farmers that a registered farmer doesn’t mean that he or she is a selected beneficiary of a particular departmental scheme. He exhorted that selected beneficiaries would be benefited through “Direct Benefit Transfer,” which is an online payment directly to the beneficiary’s bank account for total transparency. He urged the farmers to select various horticulture crops suitable for cultivation in the area and also suggested them go for field and exposure trips for better understanding, learning and to get motivation from other progressive farmers.
Sarhunyi (Stephen) from Agriculture Department highlighted on the various important schemes undertaken by the department and also spoke on the role of ATMA (Agriculture Technology Management Agency) at the village block level. He encouraged the farmers to come forward and avail the various programmes undertaken by the department, which also included free distribution of hybrid seeds.
Land Resource Department also encouraged on coffee plantation in the area for their economic uplift.
During the interactive session, farmers suggested to conduct a joint venture training and exposure trip programme for the benefit of the farming community. The team also visited an organic ginger project in the village.
