The department of Agriculture of Zunheboto district has conducted a daylong training program for farmers on the system of ‘rice intensification’ under the National Food Security Mission. The training program was held on June 5.
District Agriculture Officer G Kiyevi Aye spoke during the inaugural. He said highlighted the food production scenario of the country and said there was a need to increase production to meet the ever-increasing population. He urged the farmers to actively participate in the training programme to adopt the new technologies offered to them.
The technical session was conducted by L Kivika Chophi, agriculture officer and Benoto Kiba, agriculture inspector. The resource persons spoke on various aspects of rich augmentation technologies, and the advantages of it over conventional methods. They also explained the procedures involved starting from selection of seeds, nursery bed preparation to land preparation, time and method of sowing, soil, and water and weed management. The importance of liming, time and method of application were also explained to the participants.
30 participants from the villages of Asukhomi, Baimbo, Shotomi, Atoizu, Yezami, New Land, Sheyipu, Lochomi, Ghukiye and Kulhopu attended the training.
Agriculture tools and implements, seeds, lime and micro-nutrients were distributed free to the participants later after the program.
