Dimapur, March 27 (EMN): A new club called the Mhitsie farmers’ club of Khonoma was launched at Phetsukiku by Longmayanger, assistant chief technical officer, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kohima on March 23.
The press release received on Sunday informed that the club members comprising of 39 youths were engaged in carpentry, masonry, handicraft, weaving, and agriculture. The stakeholders were the Nagaland State Cooperative Bank, KVK, and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
One of the participants, Niekedolie Hiekha in his keynote address highlighted the background and objectives of the club.
Hiekha said the club aims to work in consultation and co-ordination with various stakeholders and to create atmosphere considered necessary for promoting income generating activities in the village. It will encourage self-employment and help understand financial products resulting in better utilization and repayment of bank loans, he said.
The major action points for the club included formation of activity based joint liability groups for bank credit linkage; assist banks in recovery of loans; facilitate the issue of soil health card to interested farmers; co-ordinate with KVK Kohima to conduct meet experts programmes; conduct activity specific training programmes in collaboration with line departments; facilitate farmers to open bank accounts including coverage under various social security schemes; and facilitate their carpenters, artisans, weavers and mason workers to receive government issued identity cards.
Prior to the launching programme, Bendang Aier, assistant general manager of NABARD inaugurated ‘Kedojuki,’ a study centre for school students and training and production centre for weavers.
