Dimapur, March 22 (EMN): ATMA Tseminyu block has organised a “Farmer-Scientist interaction” programme on March 20 at the SDAO Office, Tseminyu, with scientists from KVK Tesophenyu, K Micheal Pienyü, ACTO (Plant Protection); Zhiede, ACTO (Soil Conservation); and Imtisenla, ACTO (Agronomy); as resource persons.
The progamme was chaired by Dr. Vibeilie Keretsü, BTM, ATMA Tseminyu block.
The invocation prayer was pronounced by Rüzhüthong, AFA, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Kekhrieselie, BTM Chunlikha block. The keynote address was delivered by Viwheto Thorie, SDAO Tseminyu.
During the interaction session, the farmers raised their queries on pests and diseases problems and their management, effects of using common salt in paddy for weed control, how to carry out liming in field etc., which were clarified to them by the resource persons.
Altogether 33 people attended the programme.
In a related programme, ATMA under Chunlikha and Tseminyu blocks had organised a farmer-scientist interaction programme on March 20 at SDAO office, Tseminyu.
The resource persons were K Michael Pienyu, ACTO Plant Protection; Zhietie, ACTO Soil conservation; and Imtisenla, ACTO Agronomy. The topics were based on their research findings.
Pienyu spoke on importance of Trichogramma- a biocontrol agent as an effective measure in controlling insect pests as it does not involve any chemical inputs. He also spoke on techniques involving utilisation of Tricho cards and advised farmers to emphasise on IPM.
Imtisenla spoke on usage and formulations of Butachlor- a pre emergent herbicide for rice plant. She also spoke on achievements of Abhishek rice variety by SRI technique.
Zhiete spoke on soil health card, which contains parameters for macro and micronutrients needed for crops for optimum yield and advised farmers to cultivate based on soil health card. He also spoke on soil acidity and reducing acidity by addition of lime and also the effects of crops due to acidity in the soil.
Gauzenlo spoke on feeding technique balanced nutrition for pig farming.
During the interaction session various points were raised relating to effects of salt on paddy, usage of lime and Butachlor on fields and methods of protecting crops from insects, weeds and diseases. The experts have advised the farmers on using yellow sticky plate to attract insects, avoid excessive use of chemicals such as pesticides and fertilisers.
