Though this world has always been full of color and charm,

With passion and spirit, life is truly warm.

Yet behind each smile, sorrow silently stays,

Why does the heart feel heavy, lost in a haze?

Even this beautiful sky is touched by grief today—

For the moment to say goodbye has come our way.

Farewell, O Kohima

I embraced you as my homeland, my own,

Alas, the time has come for me to be gone.

To leave you behind feels unbearably tough,

In every story of life, you’ll return as a touch.

From Kohima to a mountain of faith, your name shall stay—

For the moment to say goodbye has come our way.

The time for Nagaland too shall rise,

What is a foundation today, tomorrow will touch the skies.

They will ask, “Who were the first to build with grace?”

And maybe, among the makers, they’ll find my trace.

My heart finds peace as this truth lights my day—

For the moment to say goodbye has come our way.

It’s true—no one stays forever in the heart’s embrace,

Time’s river never flows at a steady pace.

The caravan moves on, it never stands still,

We’re all fellow travelers, yet the journey can’t fulfill.

This tale of life becomes more tangled each day—

For the moment to say goodbye has come our way.

O my saddened heart, don’t mourn your fate,

Don’t grieve leaving behind this cherished state.

Whether we meet again or not, leave that to time,

This land will call once more—let hope always shine.

The lamp of fortune spread its bright display—

For the moment to say goodbye has come our way.

Farewell, dear friends—you’ll stay in my mind

Though I know in days to come, I’ll fade behind.

In all conditions, you’ll find me by your side,

Call my name once—and I’ll return with pride.

Though I wished this moment would somehow delay—

Still, the time to say goodbye has come our way.

With gratitude, love, and remembrance…

Dr J. Alam, IAS
