By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient. Hebrews 11:31
Even prostitutes have faith and it was this faith which saved a woman and her family. No one knows how she might have looked like but the scripture gives a clear picture of her profession, her faith and of her later deliverance from sin. See this in the light of the truth: She was a woman who was not so holy and yet in her later days, her life also became a symbol of holiness. This is faith, a faith which is more than two thousand years old and yet lives on in the hearts of the Church of Christ. The protection she gave to the spies was for her own protection and her acts spoke a language of love, faith and courage. The love Christ had even for the prostitutes was so high that he spoke of their salvation, deliverance and of their later exaltations in the age which is to be.The scriptural accounts of Christ, associations with prostitutes are said to be numerous which only two of it are recorded in the Bible. On being touched and anointed by a sinful woman, Christ spoke on her behalf and loved her much- condemning not her, neither the other woman who was like her (Luke 7:39) ( John 8:3-11 ). Being familiar with their likes, the Scripture accepted them as not sinners or prostitutes but as God’s own children. Though Rahab was a prostitute she did not invite her own people to sleep with her rather she invited God’s own people whom she protected as she would her own family. This clearly shows the destined relationship she had with the Israelites.
The eye contact made, their decisions agreed to the pledge they made. Notice this: The agreement was not in sin but to save each other. The pledge between them was not to betray each other but to trust each other and the outcome of their relationship created a legacy of love, trust and intimacy. This is faith, a faith which demolishes lust, fornication and adultery and it is this very faith which had saved millions and will save millions. Someday when the world comes to an end, every faith will be tested, reviewed and judged and the faith which are refined as gold will be exalted for greater glory in the kingdom of God. Fix your eyes on this: There is no glory in sin but only in holiness. The faith of the righteous will always be righteous.
