DIMAPUR — A one-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) was held at Dimapur Mission Higher Secondary School (DMHSS) on Tuesday on the theme ‘Leadership, mentoring, and wellness in the teaching and learning process’.
According to a press release, the programme was conducted under the guidance of the school governing board. The resource persons for the event were Additional Commissioner (GST), Dimapur Branch, Sashi Wapang, and leadership and personality development coach Vanthunglo Murry.
Speaking on the occasion, Wapang elaborated on the significance of nurturing young minds, emphasising seven crucial traits.
These included honing communication skills, embracing challenges outside one's comfort zone, learning from failures, promoting financial literacy, fostering awareness of and pride in culture and roots, engaging with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and developing the ability to utilise available resources rather than waiting for ideal conditions.
He stressed the importance of giving God first place in all aspects and highlighted the paradox of living in a world where the crying baby often gets the milk, but stressed the significance of exploring the hidden potential of the less assertive individuals who, more often than not, possess the best ideas.
Murry, speaking on ‘Developing emotional intelligence for a positive student-teacher relationship’, highlighted the art of flawless communication, active listening, empathy, and empowerment in order to be a role model as an educator.
She stated that the key qualities for becoming an ideal educator and motivator for a positive student-teacher relationship are ‘love, kindness, and trustworthiness’.
The programme was chaired by Mereninla, supervisor, while the invocation was pronounced by Merensola, chaplain and counsellor.
Earlier, in her welcome address, Dr. Maongkala Longchar, member of the governing board, expressed hope that the resource persons’ prodding of teachers with truth in love would enhance their potential.
