This harsh cold weather is making life difficult and unbearable to those working both indoors and outdoors. Kohima continues to reel under severe cold weather with no respite. The minimum temperature recorded on Monday stands at 3.1 degree.
On Sunday the temperature dipped to 1.5 degree Celsius. The extreme weather continues to affect the citizens from performing their normal chores. Many find hard to venture out. Due to extreme cold, the evenings in Kohima are seen deserted by 4 pm, and businessmen are downing their shutters early for homes. Most of the citizens remained indoors and warmed themselves near kitchen fire. Electrical heaters are in high demand for most shopkeepers in Kohima.
Ahienuo, who is working in a private firm, said it is extremely becoming unbearable sitting in her desk. “I always wear thick and double clothes from head to toe, still I always feel numb and cold,” complained Ahienuo.
Lochumi, SDO, Soil and Water Conservation said, “December has been recorded the coldest month both in Kohima and Dimapur. As per report, in Kohima December 28 has recorded night temperature at 1 degree Celsius which is the lowest minimum on record.
When contacted, Dr. Sanjay O’Neill Shaw, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati said weather is most likely to remain dry over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland.
He also informed that shallow to moderate fog is likely to occur at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
At the same time, Dr. Shaw cautioned that dense fog is most likely to occur at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on January 18 and 19.
Forecasting the weather of Kohima for next 24 hours, he informed that Kohima will have mainly clear sky, and will experience fog/mist in the morning.
He also informed Eastern Mirror that temperature in Kohima is likely to be upped to 04 degree Celsius on January 19 and another degree increase of 05 degree Celsius on January 20.
The forecasting will be good news to the people of Kohima, since the last few days record shows the temperature dropped to 1.5 degree Celsius on January 17, 2.9 degree Celsius on January 16 and 2.8 degree Celsius on January 15.
