Dimapur, Feb. 13 (EMN): In a run up to the ensuing state assembly election, Excise and Prohibition department had seized liquor and drugs worth INR 30,00,000 from throughout the state.
The seizures were made during the period from February 1-12.
In all the department seized 5,571 litres of liquor, 9,826 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon, 3,217 tablets of Nitrosun, 600 bottles of cough syrup (codein).
The department had also conducted 241 raids and arrested 159 persons. Besides, the department also generated INR 1,26,500 from the fines imposed on the offenders.
Additional commissioner of excise and state nodal officer EEM, Visedelie Mepfuo stated that the Excise department, designated as nodal department for election expenditure monitoring, have set up 24x7 control room to monitor the activities in all the eleven districts of the state in liaison with the Election Commission of India, Chief Electoral Officer, and the district administration in order to ensure free, fair and peaceful conduct of election.
