Former president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) of the state, Imtilemba Sangtam, has issued a clarification concerning the reported merger of the NCP with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently.
The MLA issued the clarification June 23, Monday, appending the statement as “BJP MLA.”
“In the interest of general public and for the development and prosperity of the state, NCP Nagaland unit were merged to BJP, It’s been speculated in the print media that the NCP merger to BJP was not properly consulted within the party claims by my former esteem office bearer of NCP,” Sangtam stated.
“It is to clarify that before the merger, within the rank and files of NCP, several rounds of consultative meetings were held in different places,” he said.
He said “we” saw no political future with the NCP at the centre, despite an NCP alliance with UPA at the centre. He said “the merger with BJP, has strengthened DAN alliance” under the Chief Minister TR Zeliang.On June 16, the legislator stated, the NCP’s state executive “unanimously resolved to merge with BJP consist of three MLAs along with party official.”
“It is unfortunate that after we have become a member of BJP family, how my former official /central party leader suspend us, which appeared on 18/6/2014 daily papers. Therefore, suspension/expulsion from the party question does not arise.”
The BJP of Nagaland “whole heartedly officially accepted the merger of the former NCP Legislators of the 12th Nagaland Assembly along with their supporters into the BJP Nagaland unit,” the MLA stated.
