‘Ethanol blending in petroleum increased to 141 cr. in 2017-18’

The state level coordinator of Indian Oil Cooperation (IOC), Nagaland has informed that the interventions of the Government of India have shown positive results and ethanol blending in petrol has increased from 38 cr litres in the ethanol supply year 2013-14 to an estimated 141 cr litres in the year 2017-18.

Informing this on the ocassion of World Biofuel Day observed at G. Rio School in Kohima on Aug. 10, tyhe coordinator said GoI has taken a number of initiatives to increase blending of biofuel since 2014, one of the major interventions include administrative price mechanism for ethanol blending in petrol.

The programme was organised under the initiative of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. The resource persons at the event encouraged the students to conserve and use “sparingly” the petroleum.  The benefit of bio fuels in reducing import dependency on crude oil, cleaner environment, and additional income to farmers and employment generation in rural areas was also imparted on the students.

The student’s of the school from class 3-12 numbering to 700 participated in quiz, essay and painting competitions.

It may be mentioned that World Biofuel day is observed every year to create awareness about the importance of non-fossil fuels as an alternative to conventional fossil fuels and to highlight the various efforts made by the government in the biofuel sector.
