Dimapur, Aug. 29 (EMN): The district authorities of Kohima in charge of enforcing the ban on plastic in the region have appealed to the people to reduce the use of plastic. They are asked to seek alternatives.
The government publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), gave updates on Thursday stating the appeal.
The newly constituted district task force restricting single use plastic, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Gregory Thejawelie, has appealed to government establishment and to schools and institutions including churches in the district to restrict the single-use plastic products, the IPR stated.
These are single-use plastic the administration listed:
1. All plastic “carry bags” with or without handles irrespective of size and thickness
2. Plastic cutlery including plates, plastic cups, straw, stirrers etc
3. Cutlery and other decorative products made of Styrofoam
4. Polythene
5. Nylon
6. Poly-vinyl-chloride
7. Poly-propylene
8. Poly-styrene
The taskforce appealed also to all government offices and institutions to stop the use of packaged drinking water that are under the 20-litre capacity. They are appealed to install alternatives like filtered water dispenser/RO plants. All government servants are advised to carry reusable drinking water bottles, the IPR added.
