Dimapur, June 15 (EMN): Asserting that its ‘good intention’ has been misunderstood, the working committee of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) has ‘clarified’ that ‘established business houses operating for years’ were not exempt from 'taxation.'
“Keeping in mind the importance of supporting and encouraging young indigenous Naga entrepreneurs in their initial years, the WC has exempted the local entrepreneurs from the purview of taxation. This was an important step toward building a strong base for economic self reliance through inculcating work culture in our youth.
“Unfortunately, the good intention has been misunderstood and therefore it is clarified that established business houses operating for years do not come under the exemption rule. A large number of non local entrepreneurs continue to operate in the name of indigenous Nagas. This adversely affects the prospects of genuine Naga youths from succeeding. Joint ventures with locals by non locals too would not be exempted in any manner. Keeping locals as supervisors, guardians, bouncers, fake proprietors, over business establishments shall be dealt with appropriately,” read a press release from the committee on Friday.
The group also appealed to village headmen, and colony headmen in the towns in the Naga areas “to subscribe to customary assistance such as house tax, soul census tax etc.” These are a 'reaffirmation to our political position and status,' it claimed.
