Eric Martin returns to be with Dimapur at Niathu

Dimapur, November 1: THE charismatic voice of rock icon Eric Martin, front man of the American rock supergroup Mr. Big, returned to Dimapur for another intimate evening—unplugged outing this time solo. The band played in the city in 2009 to what is still now considered the biggest crowd pulled by any performer in Nagaland at any time—an estimated 15, 000-20,000 people turned up for the band’s 2009 show. Yet again, the Tuesday outing for Mr. Martin proved why many rock fans still regard him as one of the greatest rock singers of the rock era. When Eric exploded on stage at Niathu Resort Dimapur with ‘Good evening Nagaland’ along with his guitarist Marcus he was received with an emotional standing ovation from the audience. The initial restrained response from the audience had Eric Martin inviting the audience to sing along with him and that changed the mood for the night. The audience—a small select one—set the night on fire with their enthusiasm when he performed to one of the band’s biggest ballads ‘Wild World.’ More of crowd pleasers such as Superfantastics and Going where the wind blows followed before the ubiquitous ‘To be with you’ came on. The latter was the one the audience had been requesting since the moment he took to the stage. The performance of Eric Martin and a night with the rock legend in Dimapur (of course for the second time though) will be remembered for long—as much for his affable personality as the interaction with his audience showed. An upcoming band ‘Highway 69’ was the opening act along besides a solo artist Tsapila. The show was organised by Nagaland events management group Live Now events in collaboration with Synergy Group Enterprise. Eric Martin will be in Kohima on Wednesday November 2.
