Mokokchung, Nov. 13: Freebies are a thing of the past. Trainees at a capacity building event in Mokokchung were told that instead of subsidies as it used to be, the age of skill and hard work is already here.
A ten-day entrepreneurship training and development programme for beneficiaries of the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme or PMEGP, for 2018-19, began at Tongdentsuyong ward in Mokokchung on November 12.
The training is been given by the Multi-Disciplinary Training Centre (NKVIB) of Dimapur and sponsored by the Khadi Village Industries Commission.
Speaking at the inaugural function, the ‘special invitee’ of the event T Lipokwati Ao, general manager of Mokokchung DIC, said that the era of subsidy was over according to new policies of the government. He said that the government would provide its share only if a project were genuine. He urged the beneficiaries not to give importance to subsidy money but to focus on how to grow their start-up industries into a larger business.
Ao wondered why the Naga people have a tendency ‘for easy money’ when it comes to government subsidy instead of taking opportunities to boost their business. The DIC general manager said that the world is being run by industries, but in the context of Nagaland, there is no industry.
Ao also asserted that Mokokchung was one of the most educated districts in Nagaland but lags behind now because its people give less interest to industrial activities. He appealed to the beneficiaries to use the loan money as seed money ‘as the last resort to give a new start to livelihood’ and to boost the economy of the local economy.
“Change your mindset, do not believe in easy money, earn through hard work,” Ao told the beneficiaries.
During an interaction session, Tongpang Walling, a resource person, talked about entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship; legal procedures in setting up a business unit; banking, accounting, and project formulation, among others. Topics of commerce will be covered during the training period.
