Kohima — An epic photograph of a lightning bolt which was taken while it struck the Doordarshan Kendra Kohima (DDK) tower a few days ago has gone viral on social media.
The picture went viral on social media after Mego Yalie, a 47-year-old passionate photographer from Kohima, posted the shot taken by him on Facebook and Instagram.
The stroke of the lightening initiated directly at the tower from the cloud during the thunderstorms and a view of the mountain range surrounding Jotsoma could be seen in the breathtaking image captured by Yalie on the first day when it started raining heavily this month.
The photo was taken from his window near Alder College at Sepfüzou colony during a time when he was undergoing treatment of both his hands for fracture.
"I broke my hands so I was not able to focus to the point that I wanted but since I'm really passionate about it, I somehow took it," Yalie said.
Yalie, who is keen about weather photography, informed that he captured the well-timed picture on the evening of the first day it started to shower heavily during this April.
"I have a huge collection of weather photographs that were taken with every opportunity," he said while speaking to Eastern Mirror on Thursday. He shared that even on Wednesday night he was shooting pictures of lightning till 1 am by his window with a Nikon D810.
Since the weather has changed, the photographer apprised that he is utilising every opportunity to click photos. In the process, he managed to capture some few shots of the lightning.
"Usually when I see lightning, I just keep waiting and waiting to take a shot. Sometimes, I don't get a single shot," said Yalie, who also taught photography once at a children school in Hyderabad.
Yalie stated that the strong lightning which struck the DDK transmission tower many times made him apprehensive that he thought of contacting people to ascertain if any unfortunate incident or event might have taken place.
"Photography is my passion and I believe it can make an impact in the society, create awareness on the beauty of God's creation as a means of preserving our environment," Yalie said on a lighter side during the conversation.
