DIMAPUR — The Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO) has strongly condemned the Supreme Court’s decision on September 17 to close criminal proceedings against the 30 Indian army personnel involved in the Oting massacre of December 4, 2021.

“This decision is a grave injustice and a betrayal of the people of Nagaland, particularly the families of the 14 innocent civilians who were brutally killed.

By absolving those responsible, the judicial system has failed in its duty to hold the perpetrators accountable. This outcome deepens the anguish of the victims' families and undermines the trust of the Nagas in the justice system. It sends a dangerous message of impunity, devaluing the lives of our people,” the statement read.

ENWO has demanded the authorities to reconsider the decision and reopen the investigation to ensure justice to the victims.

“The Oting massacre is a stain on the nation and justice must prevail,” it added.
