Dimapur, Oct. 16 (EMN): Breaking free from comfort zones, thinking differently, and working hard until success are what make a person successful. There won’t be progress if the society continues to live the way it is, was the message of a workshop on entrepreneurship for students in Wokha.
The Lotha Students’ Union conducted a workshop on skill development and entrepreneurship on Tuesday in collaboration with the Entrepreneurs Associates (EA), Youthnet and the district administration of Wokha.
The resource persons of the event were Neichute Duolo of EA; Shiroi Shaiza, Corporate Manager of EA; Yanpvuo Kikon, entrepreneur; and Supeno and Linet from YouthNet. They spoke about taking on challenges by ‘thinking differently from the rest of people who run after government jobs only.’ They said that people in most developed countries venture into business and entrepreneurship to dominate the economy. Students from various schools attended the event.
The deputy commissioner of Wokha district Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, spoke to the gathering. “If you want to dominate and control the economy then you need to be better than someone,” he said and encouraged the students to work in a constructive way at an initial age. ‘Our comfort zone has no progress and if the society continues to live the way it is, then there will be no progress.’
The administrator urged the students to change their mindset today so that the society’s future won’t be compromised. Students are the future of tomorrow, he said.
Neichute Duolo, addressed the gathering in the first session. He talked about the ‘myths’ and ‘Cinderella syndrome’ of the Naga culture: running after government jobs when students complete studies. He asked the students to have self determination and to hard work. People are not made modern with education ‘but we can excel better when one is dedicated,’ he told them.
‘To connect tomorrow one needs to do away with yesterday’s thoughts by thinking differently and acting upon them, as society doesn’t define anyone by how they are to be.’ He added that self-belief and determination leads one to excel in life. He encouraged the students to consider resources: Money is generated through business and not by governments.
Supeno and Linet from Youthnet spoke about strength and weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Linet highlighted 4 Ps: productivity, passion, possibility and power. Supeno encourage the students to take up any job.
Another speaker, Shiroi Shaiza, said that people are fight problems, but never realize that its all about finding solutions to them. She asked the students to do research and plan. Also another resource person, Yanpvuo Kikon, spoke about self-belief. He asked the gathering to be ‘humble, simple,’ and to ‘act-eat local’ but to think global. He urged them to use mistakes and failures to build success.
