Eastern Naga Students Union Dimapur (ENSUD) Wednesday held its first orientation-cum-prayer programme for students sponsored for studies in India under post-matric scholarships scheme (Government of India Ministry of tribal affairs) belonging to scheduled tribes at Konyak Baptist Church, Midland, Dimapur.
The undertaking, which is the first of its kind initiated by ENSUD, aims to provide quality education to students of Nagaland to pursue their dreams with the sole purpose based on scholarship from Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
Exhorting the students and parents on the day, Shilu Sangtam, treasurer of ENSUD acknowledged the tireless and selfless efforts put up by the team. He also informed that the first-batch students initiated by Eastern Naga Students Federation (ENSF) in 2013 are effectively in line.
Reminding the students on the atrocities committed upon Northeastern communities in metropolitan cities, he appealed the students to be God fearing and lead a decent life and also to be dedicated and live up to the expectation of the society.
Quoting from the book of Solomon ‘A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son brings grief to his mother,” he reminded the students that they are leaving with great responsibility on their shoulders.
“Through your success, you will not only make your parents, village and community happy but the entire state,” he added.
ENSUD President Honko Luklem encouraged the students to be bold and courage citing that there will be hurdles and circumstances during their journey.
“The union has tried to excavate the location so that you emerge as fighters, and now the responsibility is on you to face the battle and walk further. You have the freewill and your choice and attitude will determine your future” added Honko.
The ENSUD President also reminded the students that the Union has attempted to take up ‘this mission’ with believe that in few years, each student will emerge as refined professionals and also with the hope that their attempts do not go in vain.
Altogether, 370 students from various communities from Nagaland have been sponsored under the said scheme to pursue various courses in New Delhi and Mewar University, Rajasthan.
The students for Rajasthan along with their parents will be leaving on July 24 and July 29 for students of New Delhi. The ENSUD officials had spent a month to scrutinize and verify the college affiliation and authenticity of the University.
The programme was chaired by ENSUD women coordinator, Bundangrunla Anar, prayer for sending-off students was pronounced by Phom Baptist Attoi Dimapur associate pastor, I. Chingham Phom and benediction by Rev. Tonlong, Konyak Baptist Church Dimapur.
