Dimapur, November 11
Disappointed by government’s failure to provide teachers for schools in Eastern Nagaland, the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) today proposed to call an indefinite agitation from November 24 for which federating units have been asked to remain prepared.
This decision was unanimously taken at its emergency presidential meeting held today. The agitation may continue if demands are not met and it may even affect examination within the jurisdiction of the 6 eastern tribes of Nagaland, the federation added. “After patiently waiting for two years without any positive result, the Federation has unanimously resolved to initiate stern step during its emergency presidential meeting where its first phase of indefinite agitation was proposed and scheduled to commence on November 24.” Stating that “No nation is built without imparting good education” and no man becomes great without being taught in class room, the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) deeply lamented over ‘multi-facial game’ being played by the State government and depriving children’s education.
“The State government had not only manipulated the agreement but violated the right to education which is an educational offence under the law.”
ENSF vice president Z. Throngse Yim and general secretary Honang M Jessuhu in a statement pointed out that “according to the agreement dated 26th Nov 2013, 302 teachers under RMSA will be posted in the schools on day-1 of the first academic session 2014. However, even after the lapse of 2 academic session and repeated plea from the Federation, the agreement was never attended and as a result, schools in Eastern Nagaland is still sustaining without sufficient teacher. It should also be noted that the chief minister of Nagaland had assured that if RMSA and SSA failed to provide required posts of teachers in the schools then the State government shall provide it.”
ENSF recalled that the meeting held on 26th Nov 2013, agreed to provide 302 teachers under RMSA where TET exam was to be conducted and accordingly the TET qualifiers be called for interview.
“Today, the issue might be concentrated only on 302 teachers but its infliction is more hazardous upon 20000 students’ career which is undoubtedly curtailing all dreams and ambition of the poor students in the class room. The State government shall be held fully responsible for shattering such dreams and aspiration.”
