ENSF has urged the Nagaland government to immediately restore damaged schools and provide educational assistance to students affected by the recent landslides in Mon district.
DIMAPUR — The Eastern Naga Students' Federation (ENSF) has urged the Nagaland government to provide immediate assistance for the restoration of educational institutions and support students affected by the recent landslides in Mon district.
In a press release, the federation said its executive members visited Mon district to assess the extensive damage caused by the recent landslides, which claimed nine lives and caused widespread destruction.
During the visit, the ENSF inspected the affected areas and interacted with victims, local authorities and community members to assess the situation on the ground.
Expressing profound grief over the tragedy, the federation conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, particularly those whose loved ones remain missing despite several days of search and rescue operations.
The ENSF also expressed serious concern over the disaster's impact on the education sector, stating that several educational institutions had reportedly sustained extensive damage, rendering school buildings unsafe and disrupting academic activities.
According to the federation, many students also lost academic records, educational documents, textbooks, uniforms and other essential learning materials in the disaster.
The ENSF appealed to the state government and the concerned departments to conduct an immediate assessment of the damage to educational institutions and provide the necessary financial and logistical support for their reconstruction and restoration.

It also called for prompt measures to replace lost academic documents and extend educational assistance to affected students to ensure that their studies are not disrupted.
Reiterating its solidarity with the people of Mon district, the federation said it remained committed to supporting relief, rehabilitation and restoration efforts.
It expressed hope that through the collective efforts of the government, civil society organisations and the public, the affected communities would recover from the tragedy and rebuild with resilience.
The federation also thanked Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for visiting Mon district, reviewing the situation and assuring assistance to the affected people.
It further appreciated the Chief Secretary, Home Commissioner, Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC), Technical Education department, Eastern Nagaland Legislative Union (ENLU), the Advisor for Transport, and the Indian Army for addressing its concerns and facilitating helicopter services for stranded students.
