Thousands of people from all walks of life today came forward supporting and reiterating Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) demand for strict adherence to December 18, 2007 resolution opposing any form of bloodshed, threat, intimidation or violence within the six districts of ENPO.
In Kiphire, the reiteration was made during the ENPO rally held at Deluxe Point. ENPO Vice President, K. Khaming addressing the rally said that ENPO’s demand for Frontier Nagaland would continue till they achieve their goal, but peace and unity is the requisite of the hour.
Expressing that threat and intimidation in any form would only invite corruption and disunity, he appealed to all the Naga underground factions to be united.
He recalled that maintenance of peace within ENPO’s jurisdiction was strongly resolved and adopted in December 18, 2007 meet, which has also been reaffirmed several times during such meetings and rallies in Kiphire, Longleng and Tuensang.
Khaming however lamented that factions do not pay heed to the resolutions adopted by the general public, and appealed to the public to be united in order to achieve the desired goal of peace and unity.
Following the rally, the ENPO and United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP) rallied upto the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and submitted a three point memorandum for onward submission to the Government.During the rally, speeches were also delivered other representatives of ENPO, ENSF, ENWO and USLP official with USLP General Secretary Tsitongse Sangtam on the chair.
The three point resolutions adopted during the rally are:
1. Resolved to condemn the violation of 18th December 2007 resolution and further endorsed/support the Non-cooperation declared by the Topu-Mopong Unit and Khianmiungan Tribal Council against NSCN (K).
2. Resolved to further appeal to all other factions for strict adherence to the 18th December 2007 ENPO resolution and henceforth resolved to declared non co-operation to any faction in the event of Non compliance of the above aftermath the 22nd May 2015 ENPO public rally.
3. Keeping the above resolution in mind the public of ENPO is for peace and tranquility. Therefore, the ENPO public resolved to appeal Indian security force to avoid unnecessary harassment and hardships to the innocent and general public in the course of their duties and security related matters within ENPO jurisdiction.
Our Mon Correspondent adds: Along with the rest of the ENPO areas, a mass peace rally was held at Private bus station, Mon town to reaffirm the resolution adopted by the ENPO.
Addressing the mammoth gathering, Vice President of the ENPO, T. Mongko Koni asserted that peace and harmony can be achieved only through the unity of the people, and urged upon the gathering to inculcate unity and brotherhood to uphold peace and harmony in the region.
He also pointed out that ENPO oppose all forms of violence and bloodshed in its jurisdiction and appealed to the people especially the leaders to come forward with logical ideas to ensure that peace prevail in the society and at the same time to bring changes so that peace and development take place.
The president of Konyak Union, Manlip in his speech said that the rally was organized to maintain peace and tranquility in the ENPO areas. He informed that abrogation of ceasefire by NSCN (K) with Government of India has led to killing of 8 jawans and injuring others while one NSCN (K) was also killed. He informed that such violence and killing should not be repeated again in the region. Manlip also appealed to the various factions to desist from act of violence and come forward with a common platform for logical conclusion of the Naga issues accepted to all. At the same time, he also appealed to the security forces to avoid unwarranted harassment to the innocent public while performing their normal duties.
Honang M. Jessuhu, general secretary of the ENSF said that people needed peace for progress and development of the ENPO region which is lagging behind with others. He informed that liberty, equality and fraternity are denied to the ENPO region since the inception of Nagaland statehood in 1963. Asserting that low literacy rate is the main cause for the backwardness of the region, he appealed to the gathering of students to work hard to remove the backwardness. He declared that ENSF opposed violence and bloodshed and stood for peace and development of the region.
Thousands of people comprised of politicians, students from various schools and general public from all walks of life participated in the mass public rally. All shops and business establishments remained closed during the rally.
Rally at Shanato Headquarters:
ENPO public rally was held at public ground at Shanato Headquarters.
Thousands of public attended the public rally organised by ENPO.
The programme was chaired by Tsurito, Ex. Secretary YTC, invocation by Chuno Chuba, Member YBBA and key note address by Keozah, President YTC, special number by Shanato Town Baptist Church. Speeches by Y.P Chillio, Secretary ENPO, Alula Z. Thsanso, President YWO on behalf of ENWO, Akhang, Assistant General Secretary, Y. AkheruArihako (YAA) on behalf of ENSF. Concluding remarks was given by Hawang T. Wangsha Secretary ENPO. Benediction by Rev. R. Thsankiu, Pastor Shanato Town Baptist Church.
Peace rally at Noklak:
Along with the rest of the ENPO area, the Noklak sub-division also conducted public peace rally led by Khaimnungan Tribal Council at Noklak town junction.
The rally was chaired by General Secretary KTC, Puchaiu, key note address was delivered by President KTC, Mongtsoa and Speaker were Vice President ENPO, Kekungchem and also representative from ENWO, ENSF.
During the rally, business establishments were closed. Some of the slogan included ‘ENPO wants Peace’, ‘We are against Violence, ‘Peace need of the Hour’.
